The primary herb in this formula is Cascara Sagrada — properly aged wildcrafted bark. Aged cascara is a fundamentally different product from fresh. The aging process converts the harsh anthraquinones that cause cramping into milder compounds that encourage peristalsis without the aggressive stimulant effect most people associate with herbal laxatives. This isn't a laxative in the conventional sense. It's a bowel tonic — it restores function rather than forcing it. The supporting herbs each have specific roles.
